Either give everyone x amount to invest or have them pick x amount of stocks.
Just a buy and hold for a specified period, preferably the beginning to end of calendar year.

Would be a good way to promote interest in this forum and to educate posters on investing opportunities. Maybe have the pickers right a brief paragraph about their picks along with it.

And throw in some cash prizes for the winners.

If you guys decide to do it I'm definiately in.

I only own one stock and don't plan on buying any others for about 6 months but I can come up with two more for the contest.

Curious to what one stock you own, if you are willing to share. If I had to own one stock - and could not sell for 10-years - then it would be brk.a. If I had to pick a few names for the next 6-months, then I would go with Google, Whole Foods.

could not get a sponser. Its easy for this site to have a capping contest, but AMERITRADE does not advertise here.

It sounds fun, but impossible to grade

Piece of cake to grade. Everyone gets 1000 shares of 5 different stocks. Whoever has the highest rated portfollio at the end of the year wins.

Whats so hard about that?

Sure muskatel, here you go. (Just bought another 2,000 shares today)

If you have any questions feel free to ask, I've owned this for a while and know the company/industry pretty well.

1000 shares would not be the appropriate measure. Better to use 5 stocks in equal dollar amounts, say 10k each.

No portfolio changes allowed for 6 months. This keeps the momemtum players out and makes it easier to track. Most $$ at 6 months wins. Also good idea to limit the contest to stocks that trade on major exchanges, no OTB crap allowed.

Why no OTC stocks?? There's some fine companies on the BB.
How about no pink sheet stocks??

I think the contest turns into the best penny stock picker if those are allowed. IMO it would be more interesting to have a contest in which the majority of the stock picks that are posted are names people have heard of...

Hell its not too hard to find 5 good ideas from the thousands of companies that trade on the major exchanges...

All I buy are microcaps; not penny stocks. Count me out if no BB stocks allowed.

Why don't we put a bottom on the price, like no stocks under $2??
